In its role as a spiritual refuge, it remembers the non-possessor Nil of Sora; as a fortress, these walls withstood the siege of Polish-Lithuanian invaders; and as a prison, they hid within them the deposed Patriarch Nikon, the Grand Prince of Moscow Simeon Bekbulatovich, and many others.

We were glad to wander through such an ancient, beautiful, and significant place. We will definitely come back here again.
