It was just an ordinary, long-abandoned house in an uninhabited village - a leaky roof that had caused the floors to fail in some places, and the remaining floorboards were a bit scary to step on.
The looters had been here 20 years ago, as was evidenced by the thick dust covered scraps of things shaken out of the cupboards. Usually it is difficult to find anything interesting in such huts, except for the occasional old, unclimbable, rough dresser or crockery cupboard.
We crossed the abandoned building, approached the windows and synchronously stopped when we saw something unusual - a large cross pinned to the old wallpaper with a needle. Pulling the needle out of the wall, we examined this unusual artefact - it was extremely rough plastic: a brass cross to which a peasant sculptor had attached a primitive figure of a crucified man, giving his face a stern, uncompromising expression of Odin hanging on Yggdrasil. To find such a thing was an unspeakable luck!
There was only one question: How? How did this alien from another dimension hang here, in a prominent place by the window for many, many years, without being found by those who had been here before? The answer was on the surface: he had been waiting for us all this time, hiding himself from those whom he considered unworthy of contemplation.
